Welcome to Our Library

Below you will find a list of books, websites and other information that Baker Company, 1/21 uses for our research. These are all great works that offer a bunch of good information about the Pacific Theater in general as well as the US Marine Corps.
If you have any suggestions or any books that you find particularly useful, please leave a comment below and we'll be happy to check it out. We are always looking to improve our library and learn as much as we can about the time period we portray.
With the Old Breed- E.B. Sledge

With the Old Breed by Eugene Sledge is one of the classic research books for any Marine reenactor. His in depth descriptions of the combat conditions of both Peleliu and Okinawa bring to life the conditions of many Marines fighting all over the Pacific during WWII. Sledge describes both the combat conditions and the exhaustion and trauma that the Marines experienced. This is a fantastic book for those starting out and looking for a starting place for their research.

Islands of the Damned- R.V. Burgin
Islands of the Damned by R. V. Burgin is a great follow-up book to With the Old Breed. Burgin served as a squad leader and later Platoon Sergeant in Sledge's weapons company. As a squad leader he was Sledge's direct superior. Burgin's book recounts his own experiences on Cape Glouster, Peleliu and Okinawa, as well giving his own insight on some of the events recounted in Sledge's book. This is a great second book for those looking for the next step in their research process.
